Working on a large project at present and I find myself switching back and forth between proxy/original media quite often.
The workaround I have found to making proxy footage work is by exporting a 1080p version of the BRAW clip into HEVC, reimporting the file into FCP, then adding it as a second track inside the sync clip the BRAW file is associated with. To "enable" the proxy file, I make that track visible when it's needed and disable it when it isn't. Is there a way to implement this as an official feature?
Something like "Link with Proxy Folder" upon import that adds a disabled second track to the BRAW Sync clips.

Even when forcing a lower decode quality the video might not be playable in FCP, while still being export-able. There's often a red bar over the BRAW clips, especially when retiming. Switching back/forth between the proxy/BRAW allows me to get a proper grasp on the behavior of the retime without having to test->export->verify->adjust->export->verify.
