UX Issue: On Windows Installer, server takes a long time to start #78

OS: Windows 8.1

After installing, it took a long time to get the server up and running, and there was a bit of concern as to what its status was.

This is happening for people on the Mac installer as well (takes several minutes to "start" the server, with no indication that anything is in progress, so it just seems like it's hung.

(At least one intern gave up and uninstalled the app, thinking it didn't work for them)

This should be improved a lot by #80 (but it may still be useful to have some "Loading, please wait..." message somewhere, to keep the user from worrying.
