Rated/unrated should only begin to apply to the next puzzle

I noticed the new feature in puzzles that allows you to train unrated. I think it's a good idea, but I think the option should only start applying to the next puzzle (which you haven't seen yet), not the current one: otherwise people will be able to inflate their ratings by choosing rated or unrated based on how sure they are about the solution. This is obviously not the intended purpose of the feature

It's also not an issue because, as the feature itself says: "puzzles are not a competition"

If you are unsure about the solution of the current puzzle, you could already choose a different Puzzle Mix or a different difficulty (which will choose a new puzzle). But as @ornicar said, that doesn't matter anyway. Your puzzle score serves just to give you puzzles appropriate for your strength.

I appreciate your answer (and everything you've done for lichess!), but I respectfully disagree. The sentence below the one you highlighted says "Rating helps selecting the best puzzles for your current skill". If you get to choose which puzzles contribute to your rating change, you are introducing a very strong bias. Something need not be a competition for your rating in it to be inaccurate.

It's not lichess' problem if someone inflates their own puzzle strength and thus does not get appropriate puzzles anymore

Ok yes this is a good point :) I still think what I was proposing is a small improvement.
