Switching between variants on the fly

Description

According the README.md, it seems that all the customization stuff must be performed before loading the colorscheme. I often need to switch one variant to another (e.g. from default to tinted to ease my eyes, so I would prefer to use some custom command to switch between variants on the fly. Not sure how difficult it would be to implement such a feature, or if it would even be possible.
