Building a map

----------------------------------------------------------

1) Download osm data ... geofabrik.de is good place to it.

if you need a whole planet go here for e.g.:

http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/planet.openstreetmap.org/pbf/

2) If you need cut just part of your downloaded data use osmosis program.

example fo greenland:

$ osmosis --read-pbf file="planet-121003.osm.pbf" --bounding-box top=84.00 left=-74.00 bottom=58.00 right=-10.00 --write-pbf omitmetadata=true greenland.osm.pbf

3) Than you will need split result on smaller parts (I am doing this to subdir LAND)

$ java -ea -Xmx6144m -jar splitter-r282/splitter.jar --max-nodes=900000 --no-trim --precomp-sea=/path/to/your/precompiled_sea/directory --description=Greenland --mapid=63240001 --output=pbf --output-dir=LAND greenland.osm.pbf

4) Precompiled bounds and sea you can get here:

5) Than you can make contour for your map ... phyghtmap is excelent tool for it.
Create CONTOUR dir ... cd to it and run phyghtmap.

$ phyghtmap -a -74.00:58.00:-10.00:84.00 -s 20 -c 400,200 -o contour --source=view3,srtm3 -j 2 --pbf --no-zero-contour

6) You will need probably convert mira-typ.txt to test20.TYP file. Typviewer program is good for this task.

7) cd back to your working dir and you can build a map happily.

$ java -ea -Xmx6144m -jar mkgmap-r2459/mkgmap.jar --precomp-sea=/path/to/your/precompiled_sea/directory --bounds=/path/to/your/precompiled_bounds/directory --style-file=default-mira -c default-mira/arguments LAND/6324*.osm.pbf CONTOUR/contour*.osm.pbf test20.TYP
