Pilot Wings 64 Shadows Graphics Glitch #262

Underneath the in-game character models in Pilot Wings 64, some kind of model tries to load and fails. A shadow, perhaps?

It seems that this glitch only occurs when the character is over land, not water. I suppose that's stronger evidence that it's trying to render a shadow of some kind?
