I want to buy an ebook from Kindle and as a test of the decryption process I'm trying to decypt the free ebook Tale Of Cities by Charles Dickens:

I don't own a Kindle, I'm using the Windows version of the Kindle app.

I've installed the latest version of Calibre, 7.9.0 and used the DeDRM tools 10.0.3. The decryption fails. This is the log:

Very annoying since this is a public domain ebook and if it weren't in kfx format it would be DRM-free to begin with.

They don't care about this book. It is just a freebie to test decryption before buying a book.

Thank you for the response. I removed 10.0.3 of DeDRM and installed 10.0.9. I then found the KFX Input plugin here:

Did you delete the book from calibre and re-add it? Also be sure you aren't moving the main book file out of its original folder structure when you add it to calibre.

Calibre never managed to import the book so there is nothing to delete. Here's what I see when I start it:

Also, to decrypt the book I just double click on the file C:\Users\User\Documents\My Kindle Content\B004EHZXVQ_EBOK\B004EHZXVQ_EBOK.awz:

I'm running this in a VM with Win10 Pro 22H2 19045.2965. I assume that doesn't change anything, right?

To import the book to calibre and decrypt it use the add books button in the upper left of calibre.
