Dev Container isn't bootstrapping properly (VScode, macOS, Docker Desktop)

I'm trying out the Dev Container from #8220; but it's failing to boot past the opam init on macOS. The postCreateCommand is failing due to file permissions:

I'm not sure if the fix should be in Dune's devcontainer.json or in @avsm's avsm/ocaml-devcontainers-feature? Hopefully I'm posting this in a useful place. 😩

I never tested the dev container on macos. The intention with it was to run vscode in your browser, in a linux container. We have another docker file in docker/ that is used by our devs on macos. This should be more useful if you want to develop dune on macos.

It does successfully build on a Linux host, so I'm pretty sure it's a macOS-specific issue, just to ease your mind …

Although, while I have your attention; after booting the container up on a Linux box, running make bootstrap works fine, but ./dune.exe build @check complains about missing packages:

I'd imagine the devcontainer should install all the dependencies, as well? Perhaps even run make bootstrap?

Building @check will have missing packages because it is also checking the test suite files. In the makefile you will find commands for adding those dependencies using opam. Alternatively you can restrict check to the directories you care about by building @src/check etc.

The devcontainer should be enough that you can run opam but not install all the dependencies unfortunately. PRs improving the documentation in hacking.rst are welcome!
