NOTE: I cannot reproduce this myself, but I have had multiple people with whom I've shared videos via direct embeds tell me that this issue exists. Here are the details I've gathered from them:

This issue happens on the following configurations:

  • Latest stable Desktop Discord client, Windows 10, NVIDIA RTX 2070
    • stable 323539 (7a8fa1a) Host 1.0.9161 x64 (51643) Build Override: N/A Windows 10 64-bit (10.0.19045)
  • Latest stable Desktop Discord client, Windows 10, AMD Radeon RX 6600
    • Stable 323314 (48a671f)

The issue does NOT happen on the following configurations:

  • Latest stable Aliucord client, Android 14, Google Pixel 7
  • Latest stable Vencord client, Windows 11 Home, NVIDIA RTX 4070
    • stable 323539 (7a8fa1a) Host 1.0.9161 x64 (51643) Build Override: N/A Windows 11 64-bit (10.0.22631) Vencord db2f5c9 (Standalone) Electron 30.2.0 Chromium 124.0.6367.243

So what is the issue?

Direct embeds are shown to the users. However, when they attempt to play the direct embed, it simply shows a still image while the audio continues to play. This is fixed by changing the direct embed to a regular embed (d. -> www.), or by manually clicking on the link.

Sadly, this is a Discord issue and we can't do much to fix it. Direct embeds have been a headache lately. I'm going to keep this issue open and pinned for any discussion about direct embeds being broken.
