OpenTracing Shim GA #4911
Comments
@carlosalberto, just checking in on the GA status of this. We're in the process of adopting the shim, but bringing in a dependency with alpha status will raise some concerns during code review. |
hey @oppegard, thanks for inquiring. So I'm doing a final pass on the Spec/Shim to make sure all looks right. So far a pending item is open-telemetry/opentelemetry-specification#3048 is the only standing item (once accepted, I will implement the update for the Java Shim). More broadly speaking, I'd expect to have all ready by end of January at max, so the February release includes a stable artifact ;) |
Thanks for the good news @carlosalberto! |
@open-telemetry/java-approvers / @carlosalberto what do you say we mark the opentracing shim as stable? |
@jack-berg Thanks for reaching out. We are mostly there, but I'd ask a pair of more days in order for me to do a full review of the current code base in case there's anything missing (I know we can fix/tune things later if/as needed, but still). Tomorrow EOD I should have a proper answer (hopefully with PRs if needed). |
No problem. The next release is on 3/10. Let's (minimally) wait until the following April release. |
Added #2182 to ensure we don't loose track of it. |
Added #4344 for tracking. |
@carlosalberto @jack-berg Just following up on my colleague @oppegard 's request for update on open tracing shim ready for GA early this year(2023). Is this something we can use in prod? I understand that there can be a few issue but overall is it in a stable state for java language? |
Closing because the opentracing shinm was marked as stable in #5371. The unchecked boxes in this tracking issue continue to be open, but the shim is stable and "GA". |
This is an issue to track the upcoming OpenTracing GA release:
