To prevent issues comming up again and again like this one #1455 over time we should think about implement the approach suggested here: https://blog.ionelmc.ro/2014/05/25/python-packaging/#the-structure
Goal must be to test the package and not the src. Only then we are able to prevent accidentally missing files in the delivered version.
