Ansible Openwisp2 install fails on target host Ubuntu 24.04.1 with Python3.12.3

Hi,

Trying to install ansible-openwisp2 on Ubuntu 24.04.1 that comes with default Python 3.12.3, but getting the following errors at the step [Install openwisp2 controller and its dependencies]

The error: ERROR: Can not execute setup.py since setuptools is not available in the build environment.\n
But, when I checked on the failed install target host /opt/openwisp2/env/bin/pip list setuptools is installed.

Please help.

How did you install the ansible role? We need to know what version of the role you're using.

First, I don't get this error when I installed to a target Ubuntu 22.04, using same ansible control node & same role

How do I check the specific role version installed? I used the following steps to install the role

# step for installing the openwisp2 role on my ansible control node
python3 -m venv my-venv
my-venv/bin/pip install ansible

# install Jinja version
my-venv/bin/pip install Jinja2>=2.11

# community.general and ansible.posix collections installed and up to date:
ansible-galaxy collection install "community.general:>=3.6.0"
ansible-galaxy collection install "ansible.posix"

# Install This Role (openwisp)
ansible-galaxy install openwisp.openwisp2
