RFC: Virtual Coffee Hacktoberfest Project 2024

Summary

Let's create a multi-faceted Hacktoberfest approach for Virtual Coffee (VC) members, combining work on the VC site, a new content library, and contributions to an external open-source project.

Motivation

• Provide diverse opportunities for VC members to participate in Hacktoberfest
• Create a larger, collaborative project for the community
• Support open-source maintainers

Proposal

1. VC Site Issue:

   • Continue with the traditional VC site issue for Hacktoberfest

2. Content Library Collection:

   • Develop a new content library on the VC site similar to what YouGotThis! does.
   • Details to be determined (e.g., structure, content types, submission process)

3. External Project Support - oss.love
   Context: Both @nickytonline and I are maintainers on this repo.

   • Contribute to oss.love by adding new functionality
   • Implement a "Create Your Own Card!" feature for sending appreciation to maintainers
   • Aim to have the feature live by the end of Hacktoberfest

Goals

• Increase VC member participation in Hacktoberfest
• Enhance the VC website with valuable content
• Provide recognition to open-source maintainers
• Strengthen the VC community through collaborative work

Open Questions

• How will we structure the content library?
• What specific features are needed for the "Create Your Own Card!" functionality? Lynn (the owner of the repo) is a designer with ideas for this.
