Need Help with SpamAssassin Setup in Postal

I've been trying to set up SpamAssassin to work with Postal, but I'm having some issues. Here are the details:

• SpamAssassin Status: SpamAssassin is installed and running on my server. Here is the status output:

• Issue: Despite the configuration and SpamAssassin being active, when I check the emails in Postal, I see the following message: "This message doesn't have any spam checks. This likely means we haven't scanned this message to determine its likelihood of being spam."

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or can anyone provide guidance on what might be going wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you've restarted Postal since you changed the config file, and you're running Postal in the default way, you could also confirm with netstat -lnp to confirm spamassassin is definitely using that port.

Yes, I have already tested with new emails after setting up SpamAssassin, but they are still not being checked for spam. The issue persists, and no spam checks are being performed on the new emails

I wanted to ask if there is anything specific that needs to be configured in Docker for SpamAssassin to work with Postal? So far, I've only modified the postal.yml configuration. Should I make any additional adjustments in Docker to ensure proper integration?

it should be fine if I remember rightly, I think it should work with network: host from the original docker-compose.yml file

Thank you for your guidance. I have checked the docker-compose.yml file, and it is correctly configured with network_mode: host for all Postal services. I also restarted the services to ensure the changes were applied properly.

Despite this, the issue persists. I have tested with new emails, but SpamAssassin still isn't performing spam checks on them.

Could there be any other steps or configurations that I'm missing

Below are the installation steps I followed for setting up Postal on my server.

1. Installed necessary dependencies:

   sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common -y
   curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/docker-archive-keyring.gpg
   

2. Added Docker repository and installed Docker:

   $(lsb_release -cs) stable" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list > /dev/null

   docker --version
   apt install git
   apt install git curl jq
   

3. Installed Docker Compose:

   sudo curl -L "https://github.com/docker/compose/releases/download/v2.29.1/docker-compose-$(uname -s)-$(uname -m)" -o /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
   sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
   

4. Cloned the Postal repository and linked the Postal command:

   git clone https://postalserver.io/start/install /opt/postal
   sudo ln -s /opt/postal/bin/postal /usr/bin/postal
   

5. Set up MariaDB and RabbitMQ containers:

   docker run -d \
   --name postal-mariadb \
   -p 127.0.0.1:3306:3306 \
   --restart always \
   -e MARIADB_DATABASE=postal \
   -e MARIADB_ROOT_PASSWORD=postal \
   mariadb
   
   docker run -d \
   --name postal-rabbitmq \
   -p 127.0.0.1:5672:5672 \
   --restart always \
   -e RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_USER=postal \
   -e RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_PASS=postal \
   -e RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_VHOST=postal \
   rabbitmq:3.8
   

6. Set up Caddy container:

   docker run -d \
   --name postal-caddy \
   --restart always \
   --network host \
   -v /opt/postal/config/Caddyfile:/etc/caddy/Caddyfile \
   -v /opt/postal/caddy-data:/data \
   caddy
   

7. Bootstrapped, initialized, created a user, and started Postal:

   postal bootstrap mail.cupoprotein.com
   postal initialize
   postal make-user
   reboot
   postal start

sounds like you've done everything correctly, the only other thing I could suggest was looking in all the Postal logs to see what it was trying, postal logs worker for example.

Some have also struggled with spamassassin configuration #2642
