Personally, I love that it records whatever I'm listening to, but it might only record what's listened to if it's in the background? Makes sense given the notification is how it's working I guess.

Ah, that may be the case but I sometimes use YouTube's picture in picture which may also show the notification.

I'm new to last fm and mostly interested in it for its 'quantified self' data to collect what I'm doing/listening to regardless of whether it's music or not. I'm probably an edge case, so best to ignore my needs for those of the majority!
