On http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr14/en/tools/search/form/searchform.aspx the form uses ">" and "<" but where an upper and lower limit are provided uses BETWEEN* (inclusive) instead of, e.g., (u>1) AND (u<2) (exclusive).
*According to MSSQL documentation BETWEEN "will return the records where expression is within the range of value1 and value2 (inclusive)."
