All default [on] dependencies should already be available in the gcc%10.2.0 ^[email protected] dependency chain of expanse/0.17.3/cpu.

My apologies for the long overdue reply and follow-up here. I eventually did get around to creating a FENICS container around this time last year [1]. However, I don't recall how much testing I was able to do of it at the time. And it likely needs to be updated to run on Expanse in the near-term as we're pushing for a system upgrade here in the next few weeks.

If you're still interested in evaluating a containerized solution, please resubmit a ticket to ACCESS CI at https://support.access-ci.org/ as this ticket system used for the XSEDE project is closing down at the end of the week. Also, we can consider deploying a native build of FENICS in our new software module environment as well as it looks like there is support for it in our package manager now [2].
