External key combination unexpectedly exits iVim

Using an external keyboard, the following combination <alt-e>[any other letter] which I usually use for accented vowels (á,é, etc.) exits iVim. The big problem is that, even though I save my work as I go along, when iVim exits none of the edits are saved. This has begun happening with iOS 17.
