Background

Let's say humanity make a settlement in asteroids in order to mine them, what kind of human activity will be there?

  • Mining (main activities)
  • Mining supplies
  • Food supply chain (either grow there or import)
  • Transport
  • Lodging
  • ...

So, is there any classification of possible human activities? Most probably each of those activities will form an industry/business?! If so, do we have industry classification?

GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard)

This standard classified companies into 4 levels:

  • 11 sectors
  • 24 industry groups
  • 69 industries
  • 158 sub-industries

Certainly, there are more than 1 standard

Yeah, countries also need their own taxonomy for their own purposes (tax, laws, etc.)
