Very Subpar Performance. #428
Comments
Anything changed on the game you were playing that might caused your fps to decrease? |
Maybe its from roblox updates. There are some really good performance fflags, if you search roblox performance fast flags in bing you can find it. |
This happens in every game, sadly.
I've already tried setting everything with FFlags, still no dice. |
I have the same issue. A few weeks ago (maybe two) I had perfectly fine performance in RBWR and QSERF. Around 30-40FPS. Then one day (nothing changed with the games!), my fps is now about 15FPS in RBWR, and barely 30 in QSERF. If I also stay around too long in QSERF my fps dips even further, to about... 10-15FPS with nonexistent CPU usage, even lower then RBWR which is far more cpu heavy in my cpu limited system. (Ryzen 5 4600H GTX 1650 Laptop, ArchLinux) Ive done absolutely everything to try and fix it but no dice. Been working at this for many many days, even using Valgrind to profile the app and follow traces to possibly slow libraries, and every environment variable I can think of, even swapping nvidia drivers from open to proprietary, swapping to X11 and back to wayland.. Nothing fixed it. All my steam games are perfectly normal, its just Sober. I've heard that Roblox is dual-threaded and wont really use more then 2 threads, but that doesn't explain how I used to have significantly better fps in those games and they did not really change enough to warrant such a massive FPS drop. However it IS using two threads almost completely. So I don't know whats going on with it. I even have clips of before the day I noticed the sudden drop, and yes my fps in it looks fine. |

Im going to also add another note. In one specific game (Realistic Nuclear Fusion Reactor) the screen displays have refresh rate mode options. I used to always have the high option cause it never impacted my fps at all. Its the type of game where I also had to turn down my graphics to 1-4 because my fans were getting too loud on maximum and iirc I had more then 60 FPS consistently. Well ever since around the same time a few weeks ago, now, my fans dont kick up as much even on max and the high refresh rate screens now cause significant lag. From around 45-50fps (I used to have higher), to around 35 with nonstop stutters. I even tested said high refresh rate ingame screens with a friend on Windows who doesnt even have a gpu (has a crappy intel iGPU) and they werent lagging at all from high refresh toggle. I feel like there is definitely something going on with Sober's performance, its just that its most likely been evading detection for the last weeks because most people nowadays have a strong enough CPU to just power through it. IMPORTANT EDIT: I also looked back through some old group chats and messages, and this issue started happening for me on the 6th of this month. |
As of the update today (Please update your flatpak!) the issue seems to have been fixed completely. I get upwards of 70~ FPS now in RBWR. Will edit later after I check other games to confirm its every game. EDIT: Opening Shift + F2 debug menu does bring it down to where it used to be (10-15fps), but thats a debug menu, but it might be related? |

What problem did you encounter?
I've been trying out different things like setting FFlags. I've even switched distros, yet no matter what, performance is really subpar. I thought I had it fixed when I suddenly got reached the in-game FPS cap I set to 144 and stayed consistent at 144 (on max settings), but that only happened once and ever since it's never even reached 100+ FPS. Even on lowest settings, I'm still hovering the 60-80 FPS I get on max settings.
I have a Ryzen 3 3200G and a GTX 1050Ti with 16 GB of RAM, now running Nobara 40 after switching from EndeavourOS. I'm pretty sure I should be getting more than the 60-80 frames I'm getting. Is there an issue with the drivers or something?
I'd also like to point out, this wasn't an issue a while ago (a month or so, due to not playing). I was reaching the 144 cap consistently.
