Backup All Settings

Hi,

I made lots of trials and errors with BetterDisplay and now things look more reasonable. I do not remember which settings are changed. So, I want to backup BetterDisplay settings as is now. Could you please let me know how can I backup all my current changes in BetterDisplay settings? Is there any export/import options for the settings or specific files that I can backup and restore it in case of any issues?

Sure, you can export the defaults or just make a backup of the app's preferences list (it is under ~/Library/Preferences/me.waydabber.BetterDummy.plist).

Works fine, but a simple export/import option would be great.

agreed. Backing up prefs is simple sure, but an import/export option makes MUCH more sense to have for an app with this many setting and options (which I love). I'm genuinely very surprised this isn't built-in already. weird.
@waydabber what do you mean by "you can export the defaults" i don't see that as an option. Or do you mean manually exporting the .plist file? TY

@waydabber Tried this to move preferences and dummy to another Mac but didn’t work. How can one duplicate BetterDisplay setup on another Mac? Thanks for helping out!

Well, I have no other idea - it should work, but since defaults are cached, you might have to restart your system after copying the plist file to the new location.

It didn't work for me either. not after a reboot, even uninstalled with revo uninstaller and reinstalled then replaced the file and it still didn't work. We really could use an import/export option..surprised there isn't one on an app of this caliber with so many features. I can setup favorites for keystroke applications of resolutions sure and those also got defaulted to nothing even moving file back in. odd.

With 2.0 pre-release (#1892 & #1907) was this file changed to be named pro.betterdisplay.BetterDisplay.plist?

Yes, the config file name is different for the v2.x version.

Please be aware that the configuration file format is not final for the v2.x, a major redesign on how displays and virtual screens are stored is in process so future pre-release versions won't be able to read current configuration files!
