How To Setup Input Source Keyboard Shortcut

I've installed BetterDisplay on my MacBook Pro M2 and it allows me to switch Input Source from the menu at the top of the MacBook. However, it takes a few steps to go to the menu, go to the DDC Input Source item, and then select which input source and this is a little time consuming.

Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut on my MacBook that allows me to instantly choose which Input Source is active on the external monitor? And, how do I do this within BetterDisplay? I need specific instructions and suggestions for the actual shortcuts as I am new to MacOs.

Laptops & Monitor Setup

MacBook Pro M2 and HP Windows Laptop are both connected to a ViewSonic VP3256-4K external monitor.

MacBook is connected to monitor by USB-C.

Windows laptop is connected to monitor by DisplayPort.

Yes, just go to Settings/Keyboard, look for the DDC input section and configure the shortcut keys. You can select which display's which input should be set when you press the shortcut key you record.

Note that some displays won't accept DDC input change when they are on a different input, but some do.

@waydabber I've been finding this so handy thank you. Could we add a shortcut for 'Reinitialize External Displays'? I can't seem to find it in the list. After standby my external Acer monitor doesn't detect input from my M1 MacBook via Thunderbolt 4 unless I trigger this. Don't think I had the issue using HDMI.

Thank you for this! In addition, this is a very good alternative for the buggy, memory leaked DDPM app from Dell, if you have used it like me only for the KVM switch capabilities.

Hey, is there a reason why the keyboard shortcuts doesn't work for my display? I have a Monoprice monitor.

Update: I manage to get it to work by changing the input value to "7". But I am still having an issue switching back to the mac screen. Please help me with this

If the app menu works, the shortcut should also work. If the app menu does not work, you can try changing the DDC input codes under Settings/Displays/the display/DDC Input. You can also try using betterdisplaycli get -ddcCapabilities after installing betterdisplaycli - this is useful if the display can report working input source codes.
