Stream/mirror to external display with underscan?

I've read the workaround here, but the problem is it sets up the external monitor to be an extended screen. I want the external monitor to mirror the main display, because that's where all my spaces are set up. What combination of streaming settings and virtual displays do you think would achieve what I'm after? I've already tried setting up the virtual display to mirror the main display to stream that to my external monitor, but once you set the virtual display to mirror, the option to stream the virtual display is removed. No go there. Thanks.

Hi there - so you want to mirror the main display and apply an underscan to it? If so, then you can simply stream the main display to the external display and then use the Stream Display menu's underscan slider. No need for virtual screens in this set up.

Let me know if I misunderstand the goal.
