Samsung G9 57" - no scaling between 7680x2160 and 3840x1080?

Hello all,

On my Macbook M4 (with pro CPU) I'm trying to hit middle ground between the native 7680x2160 on my samsung G9 57" super ultra wide screen and the "default" resolution of 3840x1080, but I can't get it working.

Without using better display macOS gives me the same scaling options natively, this halves the effective resolution and makes things "giant".

I have enabled the 8K frame buffer and the flexible scaling settings, as per the docs and the FAQ.

What am I missing, has anyone else gotten this to work?

Owner of a G96NC here - In order to get smooth scaling at 8k2k I had to use a better-display virtual display mirrored to the G95NC. I did explicitly disable the auto connecting of the virtual to the correlated monitor so that I can easily switch workflows.
If you need HDR, you'll need to work with it in native mode and rely on application-level UI scaling to make do if 8k2k is too small to read or 3840x1080 is too big to tolerate.
The other way is to use it as two displays in side-by-side mode (PIP) mode. This works well, especially if you're also switching in other machines to the PBP mode. Better Display shows us that the hardware can handle 16k4k -- but I have seen system hangs due to bugs throughout the video stack. This mode doesn't support HDR either.
