I am looking at supporting the SolaX EV Charger, but I don't own one...
So I'll need some help.

If you own a charger can you please share how it's all connected together?

Are you using the CT Clamps or Modbus link to the Inverter?

As of 12th March 2023 it's a bit unknown how to fully Interact with the SolaX EV Charger.

• I have setup the plugin for the Charger to be aware of the differences between the Single and Three Phase versions.
• Serial Number checking not setup yet as I don't know what pattern the Serial Number's follow.
• I don't know what Baud or address is the default. I suggest starting with a baud of 9600 and go through address 1, 2 etc and then go to next baud rate.

I have X3-EVC-11K EV charger here with it's only Modbus link connected to the same Modbus cabling the X3-Hybrid-10 G4 Inverter uses to communicate with the main meter. I have both Inverter and EV charger too far away from the main grid connection so no way to use CT Clamps.
I am using the second Modbus link on the Inverter to connect it to the WaveShare Modbus RTU to TCP and integrate it in the HA. I have no clue whether it's possible to connect the WaveShare to the Modbus link the Inverter and EV charger are sharing for the communication with the main meter 🤷‍♂️

My X3-EVC-22K EV Charger is connected to COM port of Gen4 Inverter.

Modbus settings in advanced menu of Gen 4 inverter is set to EV Charger, Rate 9600 and Address 1.

Since the COM port is occupied, I am using Solax WIFI dongle v 3.0 for the Modbus integration.

What is the correct way to add the EV charger to integration?

That's interesting. My EV Charger is connected to the Meter/CT Port of the Gen4 Inverter sharing the Modbus connection with the main Modbus meter. Do you use Smart Meter or CT clamps for the Inverter?

What do you mean by Modbus settings in advanced menu of Gen 4 inverter is set to EV Charger ? 😕
According to documentation for X3-Hybrid-G4 there are only two settings in "Advanced settings -> Modbus" menu and those are Baud Rate and RS485 Addr. I don't see any mention of the EV Charger in the "Advanced settings" menu.

Trouble with adding separate physical cable for the EV charger is that it has only single RJ45 port for Meter/CT and there is no mention of the Modbus communication config in EV Charger. They only talk about CT clamps there 🤷‍♂️

Most probably there is some advanced configuration for Master/Slave setup of multiple Inverters ( and maybe other Solax stuff like EV charger) communicating with each other on Modbus as I saw people mentioning having such setups but I have no clue how that works.

It should definitely be possible to connect with Modbus RTU to TCP gateway like Waveshare to the COM port cabling of your inverter and see whether you can communicate with both the Inverter and the EV charger. Best would be if you can ask you system integrator what Modbus addresses your EV Charger and Inverter are using.
If this would work for you I might try to change my wiring to this setup as well.

If the Charger is connected to the Inverter you will have to daisy chain into the Modbus link somewhere.

I have also bought a EV Charger. I have the inverter connected on modbus TCP which worked as a charge and also want to connect the EV charger the same, but I am getting this error:

Done, issue created. Does anyone who have this EV charger, know why when the injection felt under 4kW and stopped charging, when again above that it doesn't start again? It is my first day with the charger... using it in GREEN mode.

If you still has no answer, it is simple and complicated at one time. Car to Charger communication is causing this.
Protocol used here (car<>charger) was not developed with gaps in mind.
Some cars will end session if there is zero power and you need plug/unplug it again.
Some cars behave differently.

We also have no knowledge how Solax changer communicates with car.

TLDR: No change to change it.

Some informations and one question:
I have Solax X3-Hybrid-10 G4 Inverter and X3-EVC-11K EV charger. If EV charger is connected with inverter thru RS485 and inverter settiong in Modbus-> CommFunSelect is set to "EV Charger", it is possible to use smart EV charge (Green), when intverter will regulate power to car to use all energy from sun and not from Grid. Also, there is "Battery charge EVC" in menu, so you can disable discharging Solax battery to EV. But when CommFunSelect is set to "EV Charger" it is not possible to read data thru RS485 by HA integration. If I switch Modbus -> CommFunSelect to COM485, integration works well, but EV charger do not use smart power regulation (in EV charger menu there is automaticaly switched "Data Source" -> Inverter to "Data Source" -> CT).
Recomendation from our distributor is to set up Modbus speed to 9600 (with EV charger to support Green mode).
@wills106 is it possible to adapt integration to read data in Modbus -> CommFunSelect -> EV charger settings? or there are no usable registers presented by inverter in this setting? If it is not possible, the only way is to user Pocket Wifi to HA and COM port to EV charger.

I did my own testing with no luck.

My setup is X3-Hybrid G4 Inverter (to HA connected via WIFI dongle 3.0). Modbus/CommFunSelect "EV Charger". EV Charger X3-EVC-22k. Data Source "Inverter". Charger and Inverter are connected using COM port on the charger's main board and COM port on the inverter.

A low cost generic USB to RS485 adapter was used for testing. I have tried several wiring option using RS485 A1 and B1, A2 and B2 on charger side. Baud Rate 9600 and several addresses including 70. Unfortunately I was unable to establish Modbus connection to HA.
I have been using the adapter several months ago to connect the inverter to HA, so I am sure the adapter is fine and should work.

Any ideas?

I don't know if they are separate Modbus Channels, or just for ease of daisy chaining equipment together.

I tried A1-B1, A2-B2, RJ45 over the weekend, but unfortunately I couldn't connect to the charger. I tried everything at different speeds but no response. I tested it on TCP over Ethernet, which I normally run a Solax X3 G4 on. I don't have the USB reader yet, I'm waiting for delivery. I strongly believe that someone more experienced will try it and I hope it will be successful.

Unfortunately it might also be what @wills106 wrote. That these terminals are just for daisy chaining so once you switch main COM port to something different than Modbus (CT or communication with Inverter) then it doesn't communicate on Modbus even on these terminals.
There is still hope though, maybe we just need to find right config of the EVC.

Hello, this weekend I also tested the communication with the Solax Wallbox. Unfortunately, Modbus TCP does not work (port is closed). But Modbus RTU works through terminals A1 and B1 and through RJ45 terminals. I think this is internal conected so it can be used for daisy chaining. I could already read the individual sensor values (e.g. voltage and power) via usb-RS485 converter and qmodbus. The Data Source must be set to "Inverter", 9600 Baud and Modbus address 70 (0x46). This is important, otherwise the device will not respond.

Im afraid I won’t be able to help you here.
I once had a connection issue with my WiFi after the Firmware update ( charger was still working). Only help there was to get a rollback of the communication module from Solax Support.
But if you charger isn’t even charging anymore there seems to be a bigger issue. Please try to contact Solax Support.

I just do not get how an firmware update via UI can kill the arm on the box. Usually when I do firmware updates and they do not work, the device switches back to the latest version.

Does the Solax 3 phase wallbox (X3-EVC-11/22) use one phase for charging if there is not enough PV power for three phase charging (4.4kw)?
The "ChargePhase" can set via Modbus address 0x0625 (w/r)-(0 three phase; 1 only the first phase, 2 only the second, ...) Has anyone tested this? Does the current charging process have to be stopped manually (0x0627 control command) to switch the phases 1->3, 3->1 or does the wallbox do this automatically when this register is written during the charging process?

I think the wallbox can only charge using three phases. At least the one I have.
Would be great if you could connect to the wallbox and solax inverter via modbus at the same time and then control the charging via homeassistant

I think that it is only for X1 where you have to tell on which phase you are to let smart functions work correctly.
For X3 it has no meaning to set it.

Officially SolaX declares OCPP only for Public wall box version. I never seen it on market here.
We all see OCPP in settings but probably not working at all. I personally played with it and I had impression that it lead to crashing off my charger. It is replaced now and I stay away from OCPP 😃

I have already successfully connected my inverter (Hybrid Gen4 Qcells Q.VOLT HYB-G3) using a Waveshare RS485 to Ethernet adapter, but I'm unsure about the steps involved in connecting the wallbox.

Could someone please provide more details on how to utilize Modbus for the wallbox integration? Specifically, I'd like to know where I can physically connect the Modbus cables to establish communication between the wallbox and Home Assistant. you have connected the 3 ct clamps to RJ45 Port of the inverter. The ct lamps are using the the 6 outer pins (2 for each CT clamp) of the rj45 connector, (3 on the left, 3 in the rigt side) the 2 middle ones (pin 4 and 5) are not used. so you could built an adapter, extracting the how middle cables (A1, B2) an and connect them to the EV Box on the green connector. Therefore i have bought 2 of there adapters, to do the wiring without the need of special equipment. (Link to amazon https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0BWRR11Y9/ ).

i also used these to to build the connection of the RS485 To ethernet bridge adapter, to the inverter.
So both can be connected simultaniously this way.

What i do not know is there to place the CT clamps of the EV box, so the charing can be messured correctly.

Interesting idea.
There is actually no need to do this on the inverter as it has dedicated COM port with the Modbus but the EV charger only has one port so for those that are not connecting EV Charger to the inverter (instead of using CT clamps) this can be a way to connect to Modbus on it.

Hi. I've had similar situation after installation.

Connection between Inverter and Wallbox will allow you to use Green and Eco modes in full power and also (for me main issue) disable charging EV from house battery.
As far as I know connection will not help in integrating Wallbox to HA. There are no "forwarded" values comming through inverter.

Thare are currently three posible options how to integrate.

1. Do not connect Wallbox to Inverter and use RS485-Modbus (wired) connection to Wallbox. I think this was already tested and works.
2. New Wallboxes have second RS485 port. I'm still waiting for my replaced Wallbox to test this. There is good chance that Modbus RTU communication will be possible. (For experimenting you need to have RS485 converter and knowledge of Modbus. You have to be able to connect wires to Wallbox)
3. There might be open Modbus TCP (WiFi) on Wallbox (same as on new WiFi dongle for Inverter). It will allow easy communication and integration with HA. (For experimenting youo should know IP of wallbox, try to scan open ports and connect Modbus TCP port - 502 by default)

The in inverters I have in HA, but for the Charger I cannot manage the connection.

Did you sort your issue with the charger taking power from the battery even though EVC mode is disabled? I had this issue for weeks and Solax were telling me to use connection from Inverter COM/LCD port on the inverter to the A2, B2 terminals on the charger however this still did not work.

I plugged a a CAT5/6/7 cable from the COM/LCD RJ45 port on the inverter to the INV RJ45 port on the charger and now. The car charges from the grid. I have yet to the further smart functions but this had been an issue for ages for me. I had to setup a discharge schedule on HA so that the battery could not be used when I was charging the car.

It is now working as grid data is showing in the solax cloud now. I will test green mode when there is some sun!

Hi. My Wallbax was finaly replaced (faulty WiFi) and I can continue testing.

Results so far:

1. No way how to connect Modbus TCP - port closed. Might be that later firmware open it, but it is not so now.
2. A1/B1, RJ45 - Is used for Inverter COM. Without this smart functions (Green, Do not change EV from battery ...) does not work. Only if you have older or incompatible inverter you can use this for Modbus RTU integration.
3. Local HTTP API - Simple access, fast and probably best method. It looks like there is read/write access to most of the functions. I'm searching for documentation. Chance is that it maps 1:1 to modbus registers.

@wills106 do you have EV Charger modbus registers document?

Looks like you are making good progress on the http side of things.

But I could not do it due to my personal bad resilience to low temperatures 😄 Charger is outside (-5 C) and invertor in garage (+2 C) and I have to sit with computer near it 🥶
Also these days I'm unable to catch smart functions related to PV as there is no sun at all 😞

If you don't have some hardware (Modbus tester, RS485/USB converter) and some programming skills it is hard to "sniff" what is going on the line.
As dry test I suggest following steps:

1. Drink a coffee/tea and think about it - this is required for me, I destroy everything if I hop on fast :)
2. Switch off EV Charger. There is high voltage near Modbus screws.
3. On EV Charger side use screws A1,B1 not RJ45. There is same in RJ45 (center wires), probably interconnected, but mine works on screws.
4. Carefully check wiring A--A, B--B. Measure conductivity if you have a tool.
5. Switch EV Charger on.
6. Check settings of Inverter. For sure switch to Modbus and back to EV Charger.
7. Test if Inverter is receiving data.
   Option one is charge car and watch if it goes from battery.
   Second is Green mode, but you will not find enough sun.
   Third is http POST to http://ip.of.charger/ DATA: optType=ReadRealTimeData&pwd=SN.of.charger.
   You can use my plugin for this (https://github.com/PatrikTrestik/homeassistant-solax-http), but it is overkill just for test.

Yeah, came to the same conclusion, but in the end the root cause has a name of "incompetent installer". The wires in the RJ45 were blue + white-green 🤦‍♂️
So I cut it and connected blue + white-blue to the A1/B1 terminals and I can connect to the charger from Gmodbus just fine 🎉

I am using your plugin for EVC integration to HA, but I am not sure how I could use it for getting the data which are exchanged between inverter and EVC and I expect we can only send this kind of data to EVC through Modbus.

So, as Gmodbus is happily communication with EVC I tried to add the charger to the HA again using the Modbus integration, but it is failing with following error:

At least I know I am not the only one trying to use Modbus with EVC.
Hopefully this investigation will lead to somewhere and we will find a way how to send data to EVC from any inverter using HA so not just people having the Solax G4 would be able to use smart functions.

Hi! I'm using currently FHEM to poll my qcells/solax inverter+EV Charger. I want to switch to HA, but I cannot poll the serial. I'm using socat on a raspi as serial2TCP gateway, since HA is running in a docker. Any idea why HA cannot read from the modus? Speed is set to 9600baud since EV charger is also using this modbus connection. On the raspi I see broken pipe errors when HA is quering.

No, it will not help.
Modbus is single Master, multiple Clients/Devices. Only Master can send requests. Clients are passive/response only.

If you have Inverter (I dont know your model) setup to connect with EV Charger (in inverter modbus settings), it becomes Master and is driving all communication on chain. In this config you can only listen with your serial converter, never send request (for example for serial number).

If you configure Inverter as modbus client (COM485 in settings), it becomes Client and you can request/control it from your serial converter. But in this setup you loose all smart functions of EV Charger (don't charge from battery, green mode ... will not work).

It can be wired to overcome this, but it is more complicated. Will require two 485/TCP converters. ModbusTCP converter can work in multi Master mode on TCP side. This will allow you to communicate with EV Charger, but not Inverter.

Do you have WiFI dongle? Try to connect TCP port 502, there should be ModbusTCP for Inverter.

Inverter and EV Charger are in my guest Wifi - I will need to move them to my internal Wifi (Fritz!Box supports only 2 "vlans"). Thanks for your insides about modbus protocoll and the setup of Solax/QCells installations.

As per our knowledge, there is no spare RS485 on EVC. Also there is no ModbusTCP exposed.

Hello, I'm looking to get a Tesla Model Y and I already have a Solax Inverter (X1 Gen 4) with batteries and thinking about getting the Solax EV charger. I already have my inverter set up with the Modbus integration. Reading some of the installation document it looks like the EV charger plugs into the COM port which is currently where the WaveShare device is plugged into...

Correction scratch that! I guess the grid power reading is just a mimic of the reading for what is going to / coming from the grid! :)

In Green 3A it will start charging on PV 800W (other 800W will go from grid).
In Green 6A it will start on PV 1200W and will take nothing from grid.
In Eco 6A it charges all the time taking minimum with 1200W. More only if V available.

Aprox values. 800W->3A230W, 1200W->6A230V

It should start charging in green mode when there is ~ 1.400W available PV Power for one phase charging. If your charging is charging at 3 phases it will start at around ~ 4.200W ( 3x1.400W )

Okay, thanks guys, the EVC has started beeping every so often - three beeps every 10 minutes maybe? any idea, i cant find beep codes online. no faults displayed on the EVC or the inverter.

For anyone else who's EVC starts beeping... Just leave it - it will stop and all is well - Solax said it was probably just doing some startup checks :) They did also push a software update and my EVC went from Version 1.28 to 4.11

I don't think its an integration issue as if you put the API url into a browser it comes back with the below:

Take a look at the sensors that have been added as part of the integration (some of them you might need to enable). One of them is the current power to the EV.

Latest update of the G4 inverter had this in the changelog:
add the function of reading charging station data through ModubusTCP
Maybe we will be able to proxy the data through Modbus TCP of inverter, but I haven't seen any updated Modbus documentation.

I am afraid this is just an update for some new chargers where you would not be limited to Modbus RTU like with the old chargers.
The old charges do not have Modbus TCP. Only Modbus RTU and local http API.
So I wouldn't hope for being able to proxy charger data through the inverter.

Don't you think Daisy Chain would work? I got this from Solax as I install a second EV Charger. For parallel.

It will not work. A2B2 is not for Inverter connection. It is purely for parallel connection of multiple Chargers.

Hi, all I have had run my 2 Solax EV Charger. Using parallel mode and it's a bit weird.
You get all the data from the first EV Charger to the Second. But you can not choose "Fast" for the first (master) and "Green" for the second (slave). The run mode is always from the master, even when the master is on available the slave uses the last used run mode from the master.
Now have disconnected EV Charger from inverter. Inverter is now connected to HA via waveshare.
And will try to connect the charger also via waveshare to HA in the next 2 weeks.

Hi all, I fitted my EV Charger a few weeks ago now (still waiting for my car to be delivered). I have noticed that every so often it beeps once. I originally thought it was when I had surplus solar and it was the chargers way of saying “plug me in”, but it seems to do it even when the battery is charging. Anyone else’s do this and you know what it means? I have rung solax to ask if they have Beep Codes and the guy hadn’t a clue what I was talking about.

Hi guys! Finally picked up my EV! First time using the charger! Just did a quick test and it looks like it’s pullling from the battery. This is the settings in my inverter. Have I got anything wrong?

2. check if communication from Inverter to EVC is correctly working. If you use HTTP API, look for "Available PV power" sensor values.

This Sensor seems to be giving the same value as what the output from the battery currently is, and doesnt include the power from the PV array.

A bit of a side question but hopefully easy/quick to answer: does anyone know what is the maximum/amperage that can be drawn from the com/LCD port of a 5kW solax X1-hybrid G4 inverter? The manual shows that it outputs 13V but nothing regarding the amperage/power :-S

I'm trying to confirm that this supply can output 2.68W reliably. Thanks in advance.

please, could anybody help me with solving of problem with Solax invertor (X3-Hybrid-G4) and wallbox (X1/X3-EVC) which is set to "Invertor" for "Grid Data Source"?
When I charge my EV (with 1-phase on-board charger) via GREEN or ECO mode, it charge only 1,2kW even there is higher surplus. When it is charged via FAST mode, it charge 3,5kW, what is maximum power in 1-phase of my wallbox. What is reason for small power in GREEN / ECO mode? Thank you very much in advance.

Sounds like Modbus connection between charger and EVC is not properly set up.
Is your wiring correct?
There need to be settings done on the Inverter as well. Are they correct?

Wiring had been done by technician and subsequently it was remotely checked by guy from Solax support. The second one said the problem would be in that the EV has only one phase on-board charger. According him there isn´t problem because it is charging (doesn´t matter it is only 1,2kW). Wallbox and invertor connection and setting is OK according him.
I have to say I don´t believe him, because if via FAST mode it charges by 3,5kW power, it should works similar via GREEN and ECO mode too. What do you think about it?
In the invertor setting I have found, there is set "0" in the parameter LoadMaxPower (see the picture). Please, is it correct?

Important hint for beginners, who also found the Homeassistant Solax Http from @PatrikTrestik for the EV Charger like me yesterday:

• You have to use the local IP of your EV charger connected via wifi with your home network. The IP can be found in your fritz box when looking for the entry "espressif". One of the espressif entries will be your inverter and one will be your EV charger.
• When beeing asked for "HTTP API password (SN)" you have to enter the registration number of your EV charger and NOT the SN-Number of your EV charger. The registration number can be found in the solax app or solax cloud.

I also have a question:
It seems I am able to change "charge phase" setting from three phase to L1, L2 or L3. So is the three phase charger able to charge on single phase? That would be great in case there is not enough solar power for three phase charging. What happens, if I change this setting while charging? Car or EV charger explodin' :D ? Thanks for your support!

Does not explode 😃 Try it. But I suggest you read this discussion from the top. There is explained how WB works also in case of lack solar energy automaticaly via modbus (invertor to wb). No reason for experimenting with fase switching.

Special case here: I am charging a Smart EQ. This car only accepts amperage 8A and more. Green Mode always starts with 6A, which my car does not accept. Therefore the automatism is not working for me.

Currently I always load in ECO Mode, which starts with 10A, which is 6.900 watts three phase. In most cases way too much.
