Just bought x42 Meters to use with Mixbus 32C v9. Got some questions:

  1. Is it possible to have a meter automatically display at a specific size?
  2. Is it possible to have a meter appear in the same location on next launch?
  3. Is it possible to have a meter reappear at all on next launch?
  4. Is it possible to have a meter open with a specific trim value? (Say -9db vs 0db)

I am already using the Mixbus Meterbridge, which does reappear on next launch, and I use Moom on OSX to force it to a specific location/screen.

I was hoping to use the x42 VU meter as a way to add bus VU meters, to create the effect of an actual console “meterbridge”.

thoughts?

  1. the meters automatically pick up host scaling, but on macOS that can not be configured (it is provided by the screen)
  2. yes, that should already be the case -- I will double check on macOS, perhaps some bug sneaked in.
  3. yes, Mixbus does reopen the plugin GUI
  4. you could use plugin presets for that. - Easiest perhaps using favorite sidebar on the mixer (you can drag/drop presets from there or add to selected tracks)

OK, there is indeed an issue with how Mixbus/macOS handles those external plugin Windows.
This will likely require a fix on the Mixbus side of things. Thanks for the heads up, I'll investigate.

OK (3) is fixed. It was a regression in Ardour/Mixbus. It will work again in 9.2.329 or later (or starting Ardour 8.1.134)

Great! I will get the new build installed asap, and confirm the new operations here.

Do you know when/where Mixbus 9.2.329 will be available?

Harrison does daily beta builds, I suggest to contact Harrison support by email tomorrow.

Robin -- I got the Mixbus 32C 9.2.329 build form Ben Loftis -- tested it, and it now shows the VU meters onscreen upon reopening the session.

I also am seeing the "preset" I made working, such that the trim level is where I set it.

Still, the VI+U meters are getting stacked on top of each other, and not maintaining the size I set -- so location and size is being ignored.

However....
I just thought to test it with Moom, and the size and location of the VU meters is being stored with Moom, so when I set up my window arrangement for Mixbus, the meters fully work as needed!!
