Root popup fails to close (can't access dead object)

Description
I was on Anacreon's texthooker page when I noticed the root popup wouldn't close. Child popups still worked fine.

I noted these errors in the console if I clicked into the popup and moved out:

IIRC I had opened the popup, added the top word, changed my mind and added the second instead, and upon alt-tabbing into another browser tab/Anki and coming back, this happened. However, I can't reproduce the issue.
