Syrian Arab Republic -> Syrian Arab Republic (the)
Tanzania, United Republic of -> Tanzania, the United Republic of
Turkey -> Türkiye

Thanks @andylolz , that's an interesting proposition. There could be some value in including the transitional codes, as it appears the US DOD has referenced "YU" in two activities (US-GOV-7-41583 and US-GOV-7-41519). They also appear to be reserved until 2039, at the earliest.

That being said, we would need to come up with a solution for "CS" as it seems to have been transitionally reserved for "Czechoslovakia", and then later re-assigned and re-reserved for "Serbia and Montenegro". And for data users, it may be better for publishers to use the modern-day equivalents of each reserved code, subdividing into multiple modern-day equivalents where necessary. Maybe worth a wider discussion?
