failures are due to pytest 8, and solved in #208

This is becoming necessary (not just a convenience) now that contourpy started publishing unpinned nightlies.

Still failing because numpy dev breaks h5py. I think maybe we should just not try to test against numpy dev more than our dependencies do...

ok it's still failing but this time it's really out of our hands: the issue is that even h5py nightlies are too old and not compatible with numpy 2.0.0b1 yet. I'd recommend merging this as is.
