Big steps towards #63. Also remove the need to maintain "in memory" repositories and consolidate assertion functions.

A lot have been done to make writing tests easier. Particularly for integration tests in
appfolders.It will not close the #63 issue yet since some tests still need to be added to reach a higher coverage.
