The following documentation uses the example of using an Ultimaker 3 for printing the casing design, using tough PLA material. The 3D design was developed using FreeCAD.

  1. Download and install Ultimaker Cura

  2. Open the Ultimaker Cura application

  3. Click on Preset printers and add 'Add printer'

  1. Click on material 1 and select 'White tough PLA' as the material
  1. Click on File > Open File(s) or press CTRL+O and add the two .stl files 'IG_Casing_base.stl' and 'IG_Casing_top.stl' in the folder 'Casing' in this repository (https://github.com/emoninet2/InteractiveGuitar/tree/master/Casing)
  1. The models should be added to the print area and be visible. Click on Slice. An estimated print time should be visible
  1. Click on 'Save to File' and save the file and a .gcode file should be saved to your desired directory location. If you intend to use the Ultimaker 3 with tough white PLA, the gcode file name 'UM3_IG_Casing_Base.gcode.gz' (https://github.com/emoninet2/InteractiveGuitar/raw/master/Casing/UM3_IG_Casing_Base.gcode.gz) can be used directly.
  2. Copy the gcode file to an USB storage drive.
  3. Insert the USB storage drive to the USB port on the Ultimaker 3 printer.
  4. Use the knob on the Ultimaker 3 to select the menu to print and select the gcode file and start the print.
