Twitter Counts
Twitter no longer stores or provides counts, this was discontinued in 2015. (Read their blog post for the official announcement).
To enable Twitter share counts a third party service is required. There are a handful of these services out there, but Shared Counts supports NewShareCounts.com.
NewShareCounts.com (NSC) is a free service.
To add support for Twitter counts on your site, sign in to NewShareCounts.com with your Twitter account and then add your site. Once this is done, NSC will begin tracking all future counts.
After that, simply enable Twitter in the Shared Counts plugin settings and add Twitter to your selected services (see screenshot).
Note: NSC will only begin tracking shares that are made after it is enabled. It will not restore or track Twitter shares counts made previously. This is a limitation of all third party services.
