Omnivore
Dev Blog
I suspect Bedrock RTX is dead, so I am currently paying more attention to the Java and Mineways versions of my resource pack. Here's a summary from the JG RTX Discord:
"I think Mojang has moved on from ray tracing. Bundling Java and Bedrock now seems telling (in addition to the lack of updates/fixes). I get the impression: Java is for enthusiasts, who care about graphics and will take the time to find packs and shaders; whereas Bedrock is focused on add-ons and cross-platform."
I highly encourage you to try JG RTX with Mineways and Omniverse Create. So far SEUS seems to be the best shader for the Java version. Here are a few screenshots to compare the Java, Bedrock and Mineways versions:

Changelog
Removed all fog settings
I give up on volumetric fogs again. 😔 I recommend using JG RTX alongside some great packs which do include volumetric fogs, such as Lumen RTX and Defined PBR. Please feel free to contribute to this repository if you would like to provide fog settings for JG RTX!

I made some models with Blockbench, which I will somehow share soon.
A.D.D. ON!
Dev Blog
A few distractions made this release come a little later and lighter than planned. I spent too much time on my RAINBOW! add-on update and JG RTX add-on. But hey, they're both very cool and you should check out the progress. 👍
It's also very hard to devote free time to Minecraft while being concerned about the invasion of Ukraine. Truthfully, I only found motivation after realizing I can use this release to attract thousands of generous people to this message:
I've never accepted money for JG RTX. I've only asked for charitable donations (and RTX ON keycaps) instead of asking you to click links or buy me coffee. I didn't mind if you considered that a pass for a free download. But now I do. If you like JG RTX enough to donate and can afford to give ANY amount of money, please give something to Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF and other organizations helping Ukrainian refugees. If you can't afford to donate, you can always afford to advocate for peace. ☮️

Creeper petroglyph and stonebrick pillars from JG RTX add-on
Pushin' It
Several new entity textures have been added in this update. Alas, Minecraft does not support PBR materials for entity textures, so these are just 2D-renders of the entity materials.
The repository now includes tools and templates for anyone interested in creating their own RTX-enabled resource pack.
This release is coming a little later than its due date because I experienced performance problems after adding certain textures. Specifically, the piston top textures in the blocks/
. Minecraft uses the piston arm entity textures in-game. The block piston tops appeared to load in the inventory screen because the icon was using piston_top_normal.png
on its top face. I'm assuming this attempt to add a PBR texture to a data-driven block, like pistons, made Minecraft go haywire.
The performance issues could have also been caused by the multiple Substance Painter instances I tend to run alongside Minecraft – and I saw a slime mob's face in my world. (That's another known-issue). Once I removed the piston tops blocks and candles from the pack it seemed to run fine. So, who knows? I'm pushing this release anyway!
Performance Tips
- JG RTX is currently around 250mb. Set it as your global resource pack to avoid bundling it with worlds. Otherwise, any well-developed or explored world could be easily over 500mb.
- If Minecraft says you have low memory, you might not actually have low memory. Minecraft will report low memory if multiple resource packs are in use with mismatched mipmap settings. Try putting JG RTX on top of the resource pack stack to ensure the correct mipmap level.
- Try RenderBender to tweak denoiser settings and more.

Clear Glass FTW
I recently held a reddit poll to help determine which style of glass to use in the pack. The clear glass won. Next round will be medieval clear glass vs. simple clear glass. This release still offers the old glass variety as an alternative.

Important Fog Fix
"Oooh, so that's how volumetric fogs work..."
I completely misunderstood volumetric fog (and it was apparent). Themax_density_height
property measures the fog height in blocks, from the ground up. I mistakenly thought this value was supposed to be set to the desired Y coordinate. 🤦♂️
- All biomes have fog settings
- Fogs are generally better, but not all biomes have been fully tested or tweaked.
