AtLAST Distance Universe science cases working group

Here you can find links to the ongoing work developing the science case study for the Distant Universe & Cosmology science goals for AtLAST.

List of collaborators (please add your name!)

Aims of the working group

To provide an in-depth analysis of:

  • Why the science goals are important
  • What the detailed requirements are to meet those goals
  • What compromises are acceptable, and conversely, not acceptable
  • How long such observations will take, using the sensitivity calculator when available
  • What types of generalized instruments are required

As discussed during our WG meeting on Feb 27, we will split into independent science teams, with the aim of providing detailed summaries of the scientific aspects and the technical requirements for the proposed science cases. You can find the list of the science topics and of members of the respective teams in the table below.
Feel free to edit the table if you think your name is misplaced or, simply, if you want to contribute to any other science case.

Preliminary notes on the science cases

  • Galaxies
This includes large-scale surveys, as well as targeted projects, and studies of galaxies in the cosmological context

  • Clusters
This includes studies of clusters and the SZ effect

Use cases from the initial call
  • A redshift survey of the early Universe
  • Cold gas in the Epoch of Reionization
  • Searching and characterizing the molecular absorbers in the Universe
  • SMG environment & clustering
  • Dust in star-forming galaxies
  • Variability of accretion onto the most massive black holes
  • Line intensity mapping survey
  • Bringing light to elusive galaxy clusters
  • Resolved rSZ temperature profiles
  • The hidden circumgalactic medium of galaxies
