Introduction and Scope

• Tyro Payments is an Australian fintech focused on serving small-to-medium enterprises with innovative solutions.
• We have 150 engineers managing ~100 services. A team of engineers works part time on maintaining the tracing infrastructure.
• Services communicate over a variety of technologies, including REST, RabbitMQ, JPOS and Spring Remoting

System Overview

• Instrumentation is through an internal library that autoconfigures Brave instrumentation

• Most services are Spring Boot based

• Data ingestion is via HTTPS

• ElasticSearch data storage with 3 nodes

Goals

• Currently in maintenance mode as adoption is over 90%
• Medium term goal will likely include migrating to cloud infrastructure as we build out the next version of cloud platform based on Kubernetes / Istio

Current Status (11-2018)

ElasticSearch storage has 30 days data rentention period of 3-4G per day.
