Beautiful Soup is a Python library designed for quick turnaround projects like screen-scraping. Three features make it powerful:
Beautiful Soup provides a few simple methods and
Pythonic idioms for navigating, searching, and modifying a parse tree: a toolkit for dissecting a document and extracting what you need. It doesn't take much code to write an application Beautiful Soup automatically converts incoming documents to Unicode and outgoing documents to UTF-8. You don't have to think about encodings, unless the document doesn't specify an encoding and Beautiful Soup can't autodetect one. Then you just have to specify the original encoding. Beautiful Soup sits on top of popular Python parsers like lxml and html5lib, allowing you to try out different parsing strategies or trade speed for flexibility.
Beautiful Soup parses anything you give it, and does the tree traversal stuff for you. You can tell it "Find all the links" , or "Find all the links of class externalLink" , or "Find all the links whose urls match "foo.com" , or "Find the table heading that's got bold text, then give me that text."

dtach - A program that emulates the detach feature of screen dtach is a tiny program that emulates the detach feature of screen, allowing you to run a program in an environment that is protected from the controlling terminal and attach to it later. dtach does not keep track of the contents of the screen, and thus works best with programs that know how to redraw themselves.
dtach does not, however, have the other features of screen, such as its support of multiple terminals or its terminal emulation support. This makes dtach extremely tiny compared to screen, making it more easily audited for bugs and security holes, and also allows it to fit in environments where space is limited, such as on rescue disks.
dtach has many possible uses, even though it is tiny. With dtach, you can:
Attach multiple times to the same program.
Access to the dtach session is controlled through the Unix filesystem permissions; thus, you can trivially allow other people to watch your session. Run a program in an environment that is protected from the controlling terminal. This means that, for instance, the program running under dtach would not be affected by the terminal being disconnected for some reason. Run programs such as emacs, which tend to want full control over the terminal. dtach mostly acts as a relay, and does not mangle the text between the application and your terminal. Suspend dtach without suspending the running program. dtach can handle the suspend key itself instead of passing it to the running program, which may be useful for certain programs such as ircII.

NTFS-3G is a stable, full-featured, read-write NTFS driver for Linux, Android, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris, QNX, Haiku, and other operating systems.

Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. The database is a simple data file containing records, each is a pair of a key and a value. Every key and value is serial bytes with variable length. Both binary data and character string can be used as a key and a value. There is neither concept of data tables nor data types. Records are organized in hash table, B+ tree, or fixed-length array.
Tokyo Cabinet is developed as the successor of GDBM and QDBM on the following purposes. They are achieved and Tokyo Cabinet replaces conventional DBM products.

The in-kernel CIFS filesystem is generally the preferred method for mounting SMB/CIFS shares on Linux.

The in-kernel CIFS filesystem relies on a set of user-space tools.
That package of tools is called cifs-utils.
Although not really part of Samba proper, these tools were originally part of the Samba package.
For several reasons, shipping these tools as part of Samba was problematic and it was deemed better to split them off into their own package.

GNUnet is a framework for secure peer-to-peer networking that does not use any centralized or otherwise trusted services.
A first service implemented on top of the networking layer allows anonymous censorship-resistant file-sharing.
Anonymity is provided by making messages originating from a peer indistinguishable from messages that the peer is routing.
All peers act as routers and use link-encrypted connections with stable bandwidth utilization to communicate with each other.
GNUnet uses a simple, excess-based economic model to allocate resources.
Peers in GNUnet monitor each others behavior with respect to resource usage; peers that contribute to the network are rewarded with better service.

RRDtool is the OpenSource industry standard, high performance data logging and graphing system for time series data.
RRDtool can be easily integrated in shell scripts, perl, python, ruby, lua or tcl applications.

What is it?
Duplicity backs directories by producing encrypted tar-format volumes and uploading them to a remote or local file server. Because duplicity uses librsync, the incremental archives are space efficient and only record the parts of files that have changed since the last backup. Because duplicity uses GnuPG to encrypt and/or sign these archives, they will be safe from spying and/or modification by the server.
The duplicity package also includes the rdiffdir utility. Rdiffdir is an extension of librsync's rdiff to directories---it can be used to produce signatures and deltas of directories as well as regular files. These signatures and deltas are in GNU tar format.

GNU libextractor is a library used to extract meta data from files of arbitrary type.
It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against external extractors for additional file types. libextractor is a GNU package.

The goal is to provide developers of file-sharing networks, browsers or WWW-indexing bots with a universal library to obtain simple keywords and meta data to match against queries and to show to users instead of only relying on filenames.
libextractor contains a shell command extract that, similar to the well-known file command, can extract meta data from a file an print the results to stdout.

Guile is the GNU Ubiquitous Intelligent Language for Extensions, the official extension language for the GNU operating system.

Gnulib is a central location for common GNU code, intended to be shared among GNU packages. GCC has libiberty, but this is hard to disentangle from the GCC build tree.
Gnulib takes a different approach. Its components are intended to be shared at the source level, rather than being a library that gets built, installed, and linked against. Thus, there is no distribution tarball; the idea is to copy files from Gnulib into your own source tree.
Gnulib also includes copies of a few files purely for convenience: the GNU coding standards, the GNU maintainer information, the GPL and other licenses (in Texinfo), assorted configuration scripts, and more. The goal is to provide all the common infrastructure needed by GNU packages.

thttpd is a simple, small, portable, fast, and secure HTTP server.
Simple: It handles only the minimum necessary to implement HTTP/1.1. Well, maybe a little more than the minimum. Small: See the comparison chart. It also has a very small run-time size, since it does not fork and is very careful about memory allocation. Portable: It compiles cleanly on most any Unix-like OS, specifically including FreeBSD, SunOS 4, Solaris 2, BSD/OS, Linux, OSF. Fast: In typical use it's about as fast as the best full-featured servers (Apache, NCSA, Netscape). Under extreme load it's much faster. The libevent API provides a mechanism to execute a callback function when a specific event occurs on a file descriptor or after a timeout has been reached. Furthermore, libevent also support callbacks due to signals or regular timeouts.
libevent is meant to replace the event loop found in event driven network servers. An application just needs to call event_dispatch() and then add or remove events dynamically without having to change the event loop.
Currently, libevent supports /dev/poll, kqueue(2), event ports, POSIX select(2), Windows select(), poll(2), and epoll(4). The internal event mechanism is completely independent of the exposed event API, and a simple update of libevent can provide new functionality without having to redesign the applications. As a result, Libevent allows for portable application development and provides the most scalable event notification mechanism available on an operating system. Libevent can also be used for multi-threaded applications, either by isolating each event_base so that only a single thread accesses it, or by locked access to a single shared event_base. Libevent should compile on Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X, Solaris, Windows, and more.
Libevent additionally provides a sophisticated framework for buffered network IO, with support for sockets, filters, rate-limiting, SSL, zero-copy file transmission, and IOCP. Libevent includes support for several useful protocols, including DNS, HTTP, and a minimal RPC framework.

Tokyo Tyrant is a package of network interface to the DBM called Tokyo Cabinet. Though the DBM has high performance, you might bother in case that multiple processes share the same database, or remote processes access the database.
Thus, Tokyo Tyrant is provided for concurrent and remote connections to Tokyo Cabinet. It is composed of the server process managing a database and its access library for client applications.

Kyoto Cabinet runs very fast. For example, elapsed time to store one million records is 0.9 seconds for hash database, and 1.1 seconds for B+ tree database. Moreover, the size of database is very small. For example, overhead for a record is 16 bytes for hash database, and 4 bytes for B+ tree database. Furthermore, scalability of Kyoto Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB (9.22e18 bytes).
Kyoto Cabinet is written in the C++ language, and provided as API of C++, C, Java, Python, Ruby, Perl, and Lua. Kyoto Cabinet is available on platforms which have API conforming to C++03 with the TR1 library extensions. Kyoto Cabinet is a free software licensed under the GNU General Public License. Zsh is a shell designed for interactive use, although it is also a powerful scripting language. Many of the useful features of bash, ksh, and tcsh were incorporated into zsh; many original features were added. The introductory document details some of the unique features of zsh. It assumes basic knowledge of the standard UNIX shells; the intent is to show a reader already familiar with one of the other major shells what makes zsh more useful or more powerful. MiniUPnP download zone
Find on this page the source of miniupnp and some related files. You will also find precompiled binaries of the UPnP client sample program for windows compiled using MinGW.
If you just need one of the software installed on your machine, you probably don't need to download and compile the source files. It is very likely that a package/port already exists for your system/distribution. Refer to your system documentation to find how to search and install a package/port. Mac OS X does have port systems too : see MacPorts or Homebrew or Fink.
The miniupnpc (client) sources have been successfully compiled under Windows XP/vista/etc. (using MinGW or Cygwin), Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD, DragonFlyBSD, Solaris, MacOS X and AmigaOS. The Makefile of the client is made for GNU make : check which version your system have with the command "make --version". On some systems, such as OpenBSD, you have to use "gmake". Under Windows with MinGW, GNU make is called "mingw32-make" and a sligthly modified version of the Makefile should be used : Makefile.mingw. Run "mingw32make.bat" to compile. The daemon (starting in November 2006) compiles with BSD make under BSD and Solaris. To compile the daemon under linux, use "make -f Makefile.linux" To compile for OpenWRT please read the README.openwrt file. The X-Wrt project is providing precompiled ipkg packages for OpenWrt for both OpenWrt White Russian and OpenWrt kamikaze. Check ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/xwrt/. For White Russian, take a look at this. pfSense users are advised to use the miniupnpd port available for their system. Recent versions of pfSense include MiniUPnPd in the base system. For Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GL owners, Tarifa firmware is another alternative to get miniUPnPd running on the router.

The MiniUPnP daemon (miniupnpd) is working under OpenBSD, NetBSD, FreeBSD, DragonFlyBSD, Mac OS X and (Open)Solaris with pf, with IP Filter or with ipfw. The linux version uses libiptc which permits to access netfilter rules inside the kernel the same way as iptables.

Existing alternatives were either non-free, not reentrant, standalone, of terrible code quality or a combination thereof.

GNU Gzip is a popular data compression program originally written by Jean-loup Gailly for the GNU project.
Mark Adler wrote the decompression part.
We developed this program as a replacement for compress because of the Unisys and IBM patents covering the LZW algorithm used by compress.

Possible memory leaks, because some objects need to be freed on the Python side and other objects on the C side, and these may change between OpenSSL versions. (Multiple free's lead to crashes very quickly, so these should be relatively rare.)

No memory locking/clearing for keys, passphrases, etc. because AFAIK Python does not provide the features needed. On the C (OpenSSL) side things are cleared when the Python objects are deleted.

Parchive: Parity Archive Volume Set
The original idea behind this project was to provide a tool to apply the data-recovery capability concepts of RAID-like systems to the posting and recovery of multi-part archives on Usenet.
We accomplished that goal.
Our new goal with version 2.0 of the specification is to improve.
It extends the idea of version 1.0 and takes the recovery process beyond the file-level barrier. This allows for more effective protection with less recovery data, and removes some previous limitations on the number of recoverable parts. See Par1 compared to Par2 for a more detailed view of the differences.
Because this new approach doesn't benefit from like sized files, it drastically extends the potiental applications of PAR.
Files such as video, music, and other data can remain in a usable format and still have recovery data associated with them.
The technology is based on a 'Reed-Solomon Code' implementation that allows for recovery of any 'X' real data-blocks for 'X' parity data-blocks present.
(Data-blocks referring to files OR much smaller virtual slices of files).
The key to this mission is a clean file format specification which provides all the necessary capabilities for programs to easily verify and regenerate single missing parts out of a set of data-blocks.

The most recent version of this package can be found in the source tree for the Boehm-Demers-Weiser garbage collector (bdwgc) on Github. It should be possible to just extract the libatomic_ops source tree and build it independently. Recent versions are identified by bdwgc version numbers.
Provides implementations for atomic memory update operations on a number of architectures. This allows direct use of these in reasonably portable code. Unlike earlier similar packages, this one explicitly considers memory barrier semantics, and allows the construction of code that involves minimum overhead across a variety of architectures.
The package has been at least minimally tested on X86, Itanium, Alpha, PA-RISC, PowerPC, and SPARC, with Linux, Microsoft Windows, HP/UX, Solaris, and MACOSX operating systems. Some implementations are more complete than others.
It should be useful both for high performance multi-threaded code which can't afford to use the standard locking primitives, or for code that has to access shared data structures from signal handlers. For details, see README.txt in the distribution.
The most recent version adds support for operations on data of different sizes, and adds an optional library providing almost-lock-free stacks (see Boehm, "An almost non-blocking stack", also here) and a signal-handler-safe memory allocator based on it. We emphasize libraries that work well with the C++ Standard Library. Boost libraries are intended to be widely useful, and usable across a broad spectrum of applications. The Boost license encourages both commercial and non-commercial use.
We aim to establish "existing practice" and provide reference implementations so that Boost libraries are suitable for eventual standardization. Ten Boost libraries are included in the C++ Standards Committee's Library Technical Report (TR1) and in the new C++11 Standard. Introduction to libiconv For historical reasons, international text is often encoded using a language or country dependent character encoding. With the advent of the internet and the frequent exchange of text across countries - even the viewing of a web page from a foreign country is a "text exchange" in this context -, conversions between these encodings have become important. They have also become a problem, because many characters which are present in one encoding are absent in many other encodings. To solve this mess, the Unicode encoding has been created. It is a super-encoding of all others and is therefore the default encoding for new text formats like XML.
Still, many computers still operate in locale with a traditional (limited) character encoding. Some programs, like mailers and web browsers, must be able to convert between a given text encoding and the user's encoding. Other programs internally store strings in Unicode, to facilitate internal processing, and need to convert between internal string representation (Unicode) and external string representation (a traditional encoding) when they are doing I/O. GNU libiconv is a conversion library for both kinds of applications.

OpenSSH is a FREE version of the SSH connectivity tools that technical users of the Internet rely on. Users of telnet, rlogin, and ftp may not realize that their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted, but it is. OpenSSH encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other attacks. Additionally, OpenSSH provides secure tunneling capabilities and several authentication methods, and supports all SSH protocol versions.
The OpenSSH suite replaces rlogin and telnet with the ssh program, rcp with scp, and ftp with sftp. Also included is sshd (the server side of the package), and the other utilities like ssh-add, ssh-agent, ssh-keysign, ssh-keyscan, ssh-keygen and sftp-server.
OpenSSH is developed by the OpenBSD Project. The software is developed in countries that permit cryptography export and is freely useable and re-useable by everyone under a BSD license. MPlayer Features
MPlayer is a movie player which runs on many systems (see the documentation). Wiimms ISO Tools is a set of command line tools to manipulate Wii and GameCube ISO images and WBFS containers.

Netfilter.org is home to the software of the packet filtering framework inside the Linux 2.4.x and 2.6.x kernel series. Software commonly associated with netfilter.org is iptables.
Software inside this framework enables packet filtering, network address [and port] translation (NA[P]T) and other packet mangling. It is the re-designed and heavily improved successor of the previous Linux 2.2.x ipchains and Linux 2.0.x ipfwadm systems.
netfilter is a set of hooks inside the Linux kernel that allows kernel modules to register callback functions with the network stack. A registered callback function is then called back for every packet that traverses the respective hook within the network stack.
iptables is a generic table structure for the definition of rulesets. Each rule within an IP table consists of a number of classifiers (iptables matches) and one connected action (iptables target).

OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision) is a library of programming functions for real time computer vision.
OpenCV is released under a BSD license, it is free for both academic and commercial use. It has C++, C, Python and soon Java interfaces running on Windows, Linux, Android and Mac. mimms is an mms (e.g. mms://) stream downloader
mimms is a program designed to allow you to download streams using the MMS protocol and save them to your computer, as opposed to watching them live. Similar functionality is available in full media player suites such as Xine, MPlayer, and VLC, but mimms is quick and easy to use and, for the time being, remains a useful program.
Originally, mimms was forked directly from the last known version of mmsclient, which was for years unmaintained. mimms was started with the following goals:
- Keep a working copy of "mmsclient" (now "mimms") well maintained
- Fix lots of the bugs that were in mmsclient
- Extend the functionality of the program in useful ways
Since the 2.x series, mimms shares no code with mmsclient, and actually does all of it's MMS operations using libmms, a library based off of the xine-improved mmsclient code, which is designed to allow multiple implementations of MMS clients without requiring a fragmented code base. The mimms 3.x series is implemented entirely in python, and is freed from the details of the MMS protocol and architecture dependence, and can focus on usability.

docbook2X is a software package that converts DocBook documents into the traditional Unix man page format and the GNU Texinfo format.
It is free software under a MIT-style license.
Notable features include table support for man pages, internationalization support, and easy customization of the output using XSLT. (Easy, because unlike other converters, the docbook2X stylesheets are written in a modular way, and the character escaping and whitespace issues with the man-page and Texinfo formats are encapsulated away from the user.)

ibrsync is a free software library that implements the rsync remote-delta algorithm. This algorithm allows efficient remote updates of a file, without requiring the old and new versions to both be present at the sending end. The library uses a "streaming" design similar to that of zlib with the aim of allowing it to be embedded into many different applications.
librsync is currently pre-1.0, with most important functionality working.
librsync is not wire-compatible with rsync 2.x, and is not likely to be in the future.
This is a new codebase, designed to allow a fresh start on the problem and a cleaner design. It may be used in a future version of rsync or a successor project. Early steps towards that are visible in Wayne's rZync prototype, and Martin's superlifter design.

MCrypt is a replacement for the old crypt() package and crypt(1) command, with extensions. It allows developers to use a wide range of encryption functions, without making drastic changes to their code. It allows users to encrypt files or data streams without having to be cryptographers. Above all, it allows you to have some really neat code on your machine. :)
The companion to MCrypt is Libmcrypt, which contains the actual encryption functions themselves, and provides a standardized mechanism for accessing them.

Benjamin Lin's implementations of dos2unix and unix2dos are part of several Linux distributions such as RedHat, Fedora, Suse, Gentoo and others.
This update includes all RedHat patches and fixes several other problems.
Internationalization has been added and ports to DOS, Windows, Cygwin and OS/2 Warp have been made.

isync is a command line application which synchronizes mailboxes; currently Maildir and IMAP4 mailboxes are supported. New messages, message deletions and flag changes can be propagated both ways. isync is suitable for use in IMAP-disconnected mode.
Synchronization is based on unique message identifiers (UIDs), so no identification conflicts can occur (as opposed to some other mail synchronizers). Synchronization state is kept in one local text file per mailbox pair; multiple replicas of a mailbox can be maintained.

A bridge is a way to connect two Ethernet segments together in a protocol independent way. Packets are forwarded based on Ethernet address, rather than IP address (like a router). Since forwarding is done at Layer 2, all protocols can go transparently through a bridge.
The Linux bridge code implements a subset of the ANSI/IEEE 802.1d standard. [1]. The original Linux bridging was first done in Linux 2.2, then rewritten by Lennert Buytenhek. The code for bridging has been integrated into 2.4 and 2.6 kernel series.

Introduction to sysstat
The sysstat package contains utilities to monitor system performance and usage activity. Sysstat contains various utilities, common to many commercial Unixes, and tools you can schedule via cron to collect and historize performance and activity data.
iostat(1) reports CPU statistics and input/output statistics for devices,
partitions and network filesystems. mpstat(1) reports individual or combined processor related statistics. pidstat(1) reports statistics for Linux tasks (processes) : I/O, CPU, memory, etc. sar(1) collects, reports and saves system activity information (CPU, memory, disks, interrupts, network interfaces, TTY, kernel tables,etc.) sadc(8) is the system activity data collector, used as a backend for sar. sa1(8) collects and stores binary data in the system activity daily data file. It is a front end to sadc designed to be run from cron. sa2(8) writes a summarized daily activity report. It is a front end to sar designed to be run from cron. sadf(1) displays data collected by sar in multiple formats (CSV, XML, etc.) This is useful to load performance data into a database, or import them in a spreadsheet to make graphs. nfsiostat(1) reports input/output statistics for network filesystems (NFS). cifsiostat(1) reports CIFS statistics.

What is libffi? Compilers for high level languages generate code that follows certain conventions. These conventions are necessary, in part, for separate compilation to work. One such convention is the "calling convention". The "calling convention" is a set of assumptions made by the compiler about where function arguments will be found on entry to a function. A "calling convention" also specifies where the return value for a function is found.
Some programs may not know at the time of compilation what arguments are to be passed to a function. For instance, an interpreter may be told at run-time about the number and types of arguments used to call a given function. Libffi can be used in such programs to provide a bridge from the interpreter program to compiled code.
The libffi library provides a portable, high level programming interface to various calling conventions. This allows a programmer to call any function specified by a call interface description at run-time.
FFI stands for Foreign Function Interface. A foreign function interface is the popular name for the interface that allows code written in one language to call code written in another language. The libffi library really only provides the lowest, machine dependent layer of a fully featured foreign function interface. A layer must exist above libffi that handles type conversions for values passed between the two languages.

What is libspectre
libspectre is a small library for rendering Postscript documents. It provides a convenient easy to use API for handling and rendering Postscript documents.

Shell In A Box implements a web server that can export arbitrary command line tools to a web based terminal emulator.
This emulator is accessible to any JavaScript and CSS enabled web browser and does not require any additional browser plugins.
Most typically, login shells would be exported this way: shellinaboxd -s /:LOGIN
This command starts a web server at http://localhost:4200 that allows users to login with their username and password and to get access to their login shell.

But the POSIX platform APIs for text do not contain adequate functions for dealing with particular properties of many Unicode characters.
In fact, the POSIX APIs for text have several assumptions at their base which don't hold for Unicode text.

PyPlay

Mount a WebDAV resource as a regular file system
Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV), an extension to the HTTP-protocol, allows authoring of resources on a remote web server. davfs2 provides the ability to access such resources like a typical filesystem, allowing for use by standard applications with no built-in support for WebDAV.
davfs2 is designed to fully integrate into the filesystem semantics of Unix-like systems (mount, umount, etc.). davfs2 makes mounting by unprivileged users as easy and secure as possible.
davfs2 does extensive caching to make the file system responsive, to avoid unnecessary network traffic and to prevent data loss, and to cope for slow or unreliable connections.
davfs2 will work with most WebDAV servers needing little or no configuration.
davfs2 is developed and tested on GNU/Linux but porting to other free operating systems should not be too cumbersome.
