Prototype case design, please print and advise! #12

My 3D printer is out of action (plus I don't have my Badgy yet), but here's a first prototype case design, in a wedge style to sit angled on the table, a little "wedgy"... :) Print this and see how or even IF it fits...??! Let me know any feedback! No idea if the switch or USB are accessible - maybe with a pin!? Top should print face down, bottom part should print with "back" facing up, both no supports, and 0.15mm layer height or less to pick up the snap fits nice and sharp.
A basic prototype case to try out and see if I have the dimension correct - I don't have the Badgy yet, and my 3D printer is not running at the moment. |
Thanks Stephen, this is great, I will do a test print.
I started working on my own front cover and just got all the bits to fit,
and also finding the power switch tricky to reach - doesnt extend out
beyond the board much :)
Will feed back once printed.

Thanks for the design @chunkysteveo! We printed the case to test it out and it fits quite well! The power switch is tricky to reach as mentioned, but the USB port works great. Here are some photons: We'll wait on @richardvk's feedback as well then we'll merge the PR 👍 |
I also printed one this weekend and it seems great! The clipping together
was not 100% but I think it's because I printed in draft quality.
I think this is a perfectly usable case as is, thanks again!

Ahh great! I have been able to print one out, (any news on my Badgy being sent out?) and agree that the snap fitting seems to not be 100% flush. I would like to adjust that a little more and do a couple of tweaks. Can you take a picture of the switch and the hole - to see if there is anything I can improve on? Steve |
Some pics of mine. Note specifically at the back, the slot that the clip
clips into split away from the main body. But this was a fast, draft
quality print....

Can't see the pics richardvk? |
Hmm, shows up when viewed in my sent items.
Let me try them as attachments?

Now I have a Badgy i'm not happy with my case design.. I can improve this one with some adjustments to help slot the Badgy in, and better access to ports/switches. Hang fire on merging this PR for now... |
Hooray glad you got it :) I still have mine in front of me in case v1.0, so
looking forward to printing the next release ;)

It's not the one I was getting, i've been gifted one in return for some 3D design and goodies - seems like a good swap! Yeah, not happy at all when I tried to fit it. Just shows you can't beat a physical prototype to feel how it fits in your hands. Not bad for a blind first effort though! Need to make the USB slot cleaner, improve access to the power switch, and improve how it sits within the case when you first slot it in - there's too much room for wiggle, and I was scared of snapping/cracking the e-paper too!! |
created a quick and easy "frame" style 3D case that hopefully should work. Won't need any support with only a little overhang on the top corner pieces - any sagging will help the corners grip the Badgy. Should be able to squeeze it in, not printed it yet...

Hey @chunkysteveo thanks for posting the "frame" case prototype! I printed it out, and have taken a couple notes of things that could be adjusted: |
Woops - this has been continued on another issue thread and I posted on there... you will find I have updated the version you have printed and solved all that you have just spotted!! :) haha! Download and print this cheeky one... badge-frame_all_v3.zip Should do you nicely! :) |
To address what you have noted though: Good looking print though BTW, nice! |
