Valibre and blockchainizing Valiu
Valiu is a for profit company that allows the common non tech-savvy user in Latin America, like doña Gloria, to send money in her local currency to anyone across borders including her daughter María cheap and easily, besides having access to convenient financial services like the Valiu Dollar(USDv) that protects them from the highly inflationary economy of their countries. All this possible thanks to the use of cryptocurrencies under the hood but without either of them knowing anything about what the crypto-jargon even means.
To bring Valiu's financial freedom and ease of use to everyone is important to be as transparent and inclusive as possible, with the Valibre organization we are creating a space where anyone can share and contribute their ideas on how to build the most advanced financial infrastructure that will power the world economies of the coming decades.
We are no strangers to blockchain technology, in fact without it there would be no Valiu. It was thanks to Bitcoin that Valiu made possible cross border transfers from one local currency to another in the first place. But there are many more ways that we can benefit from this technology by further incorporating in our technology stack.
At the time of this writing, Valiu's architecture looks quite "normal" for a fast growing start-up with reasonable technical debt. A monolith, hardly coupled micro services here and there, in-house auth system, REST, gRPC, WebSockets, queue system, RDBMS, NoSQL, you name it. This trend could continue, we can patch the ship while we sail or we can also step back for a second to not only do things in a better, more future proof way but aim higher driven by the conviction that blockchain is here to stay and become a key piece of any future financial system.
Current system works, money arrives to its destination but it could use some improvements.
