Effects:

When worn, etherium armor will provide the player with high defensive stats and unlike other armor, will not be visible on them. Wearing full set of etherium armor will also grant them a set bonus:

Trivia:

Etherium gear has exceptionally high durability as for armor, with the helmet having 1452 durability points, cuirass having 2112, greaves having 1980 and boots having 1716. It has protection stats noticeably better than that of a diamond armor, an is also not displayed on a player when they are wearing it, providing additional advantage in PvP encounters.

But the greatest power of etherium armor lies in it's set bonus. Set bonus is activated when wearing all four pieces of the armor simultaneously. When that happens, additional text describing it will be seen when viewing the tooltip of any of those pieces.

The bonus will generate a shield around the player, whenever their health drops below 40%. Health calculations consider maximum amount of health player can have at the moment, so if they have any effects that increase or decrease maximum health they can have, the amount of health required to generate a shield will change respectively.

Shield generated by etherium armor mimics visual appearance of shield that Wither has when brought down to less than half of it's health:

When the shield is active, it effectively halves the amount of damage player receives from any source (including unblockable and absolute damage types, like damage from the Void), prevents any projectiles from harming the player, prevents any status effects that are considered negative from being applied to them, and knocks back any creatures that attack them in melee combat. Reflecting a projectile or knocking back an entity is accompanied by special sound effect, to provide an auditory feedback when shield actively reacts to something.

All of it makes etherium armor immensely powerful by the standarts of vanilla Minecraft, totally paying back for all the effort required to create it.
