Editing an existing template

To make changes to an existing template

  1. Find the template on the Resource Templates tab or Dashboard
  2. Click the pencil icon

  1. Sinopia opens the selected template in the Edit tab.
  2. Make your changes and save.
  3. Caution: Don't try to create a new template in this manner by changing the Template ID. It won't work. Instead, start by copying a template to use as a starting point.
  4. Additional caution: After you make changes to an existing template, you'll likely want to open it for cataloging to see how the changes look. Return to the Resource Templates tab and do a hard refresh to make sure you see not only the changes to template metadata displayed on that tab, but to make sure that when you open the template for cataloging (by click on Template Label/ID), you'll see the changes you just made.
  5. Even more caution: There's no way to see what templates might nest the template you're using, or where it was already used in Sinopia for cataloging. So if you change things, data already cataloged might not have a place to go. Sinopia does not (yet) support template versioning. Template change history is stored, but is not accessible for viewing. In previous iterations of Sinopia, we used Github to manage versioning and change history on templates, and that is described in our old documentation on profiles and templates.

A note about deleting templates: There is no way to delete a template from the user interface. If you have a template that you want to delete, open a ticket to request deletion. Include the environment (stage or production) and the IDs of the templates you want deleted. Use caution: if you've created any resource descriptions using a template, when you delete the template, Sinopia won't be able to open those descriptions anymore (see issue 1639), and if you have other templates that nest the template you are deleting, you won't be able to open those templates until you fix the reference.
