QuickStart in Creating Sinopia Descriptions
Begin by reviewing the PCC Sinopia Training modules. These modules provide a strong foundation for understanding BIBFRAME linked data and the Sinopia editor. Module 10, Cataloging Workflow, provides thorough and clear instructions for how to begin BIBFRAME cataloging in Sinopia. The steps below incorporate PCC Task Group on Metadata Application Profiles templates, which provide a common ground for creating BIBFRAME data according to shared cataloging norms. Examples in this documentation use the Sinopia Stage environment and the Monograph templates. PCC MAPs templates are available in Sinopia Stage and Development environments.
The scope of these instructions are limited to promoting the use of the Sinopia PCC templates for creating descriptions in the Sinopia editor. For cataloging and metadata creation guidance, please refer to relevant PCC documentation.
Begin cataloging a monograph by starting with the _PCC BF2 Instance (Monograph) template with the template ID pcc:bf2:Monograph:Instance.
Navigate to the Resource Templates tab.
Enter the template ID into the search field, and click on the icon to create a new description.
Once the template opens, begin creating your description by working down the form and saving as needed.
Complete the required fields as desired, with the minimum required fields completed in order to save the resource. and connect it to a new Work.
When finished with the Monograph Instance, generate a new work by scrolling to the top of the description and locating the “Instance of” property. Click on the button that says Create New and locate the template for _PCC BF2 Work (Monograph). Be careful to select the correct template as many have a similar name.
Complete the description and select save. Copy the Work URI. Navigate to the _PCC BF2 Instance (Monograph) template and paste the URI into the “Instance of” property. Save.
The same process can be used with Serial – Instance and Serial – Work templates.
