NPC Tokens store and display NPC statblocks.

Creating NPC Tokens

There are a couple of methods for creating an NPC token.

Option 1: Compendium > Bestiary Method

To create an NPC token using the Compendium Bestiary:

  1. Open the Compendium by selecting the top icon in the Mini Map Overlay (the 4 books), by clicking "Compendium" in the Campaign window, or by using the keyboard shortcut F12.
  2. In the Compendium, scroll down to the "Bestiary" section.
  3. Click on "Creature List". This will open a window with a list of creatures to choose from.
  4. Find the creature you want from the available list and select "Spawn" on the far right in that window.

Notes on this method:

  • In version 2.5, all NPC tokens will be created as invisible to PCs and at 40% opacity. This can be changed by double clicking on the token and making changes under the "config" tab.
  • Some of the spawned NPCs may be missing a picture and will just show up with a red X instead. This can be changed by double clicking the token and clicking the small green "+" button in the red X picture at the top of the window (on the left of the "Name" field).
  • The creature you are looking for may not be available. To make it available, you must either manually add your own NPC to the Bestiary, which will be discussed further down this page.

Option 2: Assigning a Token as NPC

To assign a token as an NPC:

  1. Place a token on the map from your library.
  2. Select the token.
  3. Open the GM Menu by selecting "Menu" from the Campaign window or using the F9 keyboard shortcut.
  4. Ensure the token is still selected and click "Set NPC" from the GM Menu.
  5. When it asks, "Set [token name] as NPC?" click "OK"
  6. The program will come up with a dropdown menu of available creature statblocks to use for this NPC. Select the appropriate creature from the menu or, if the creature is not available, select "Add New".
  7. Click "OK".

To see if it worked, select the NPC token you just created and check if a dark red Statblock button appears in the selection pane.

Clicking on the Statblock button will show the stats for the creature you just created. If you selected "Add New," the Statblock will be empty and you will need to fill that out manually to create a new beast/monster for the Bestiary.
