Persona Questioner 1
Name: Sandra
Age: 44
Technical Comfort: Not at all comfortable with technology.
"If we cannot measure a change, how do we know it is good?"
Sandra is a family doctor and researcher. Her time is split about 50/50 between her shared practice and her research. She joined this practice two years ago when she moved from Manitoba and her quantitative research has been focused on measuring process and outcomes indicators for evidence-based chronic disease management interventions such as CME, QI activities and patient education.
- Joan sees the advantages of being able to ask questions quickly and repeatedly without disrupting practices, but she isn't sure "how the whole thing works".
- She needs help reviewing what CAN be asked in the network and what cannot.
- Her data in her office (which is a node) is not very good.
Joan was actually excited to see this question - the first - move through the network. She has been very interested in polypharmacy ever since seeing some of the alarming stats at a conference and having some experiences in her own practice of unintended consequences of too many medications in a few patients.
After the network was set up and tested across the 17 initial practices, her question was run by the question manager. One week later, 11 practices had responded and by 3 weeks 16 had completed the question. One declined (to see if they could).
She had some trouble with the initial presentation of the data, but the question manager presented the data in a new way, which worked well for her as they crafted the report back to the 17 practices.
As expected, the rates of polypharmacy were high. While not a good thing, it was clear justification for a grant application for an interventional trial to improve prescribing.
There were some emails back to her about people asking for their own data, which she knew they did not have.
